Premise:
What if one day you woke up changed gifted with abilities beyond the ken
of normal humanity? Up until this point you've been a normal person, a
regular Joe, a cipher in the great machine of human civilization. But,
now forces beyond your knowledge and perhaps beyond your understanding
have changed you and given you what all people secretly desire.
Power
Perhaps you can fly, read minds or create energy from nothing, maybe
your dream foretell the future or even stranger abilities might yours to
harness, to do with as you will. Hero or villain, messiah or tyrant the
choice is yours to make. Your conscious is your only guide,
imagination, drive and courage your only limits. You have been elevated
above mortal men.
You are Empowered.
Empowered will revolve around the lives and choices of several
individuals who are suddenly gifted with powers that could only be
described as superhuman. But they are not "superheroes", most of them
will be fairly normal people with lives and backgrounds the reflect the
real world not a comic book setting. It will be a game about choices
motivated mostly by the actions of the PCs and other Empowered in the
setting. There is no assumed morality or course of the game or character
development. Combat probably will not be a large part of the game
Empowered will open on January 1st 2009 as the in game start date
shortly after a minor earthquake hits the American west coast with it's
epicenter in Los Angeles where all the PCs will be begin just after
midnight. This will be the first time the PC's manifest their abilities.
The game will officially begin in LA shortly after midnight January 1st
2009 moments after a minor earthquake hits most of the Western seaboard.
This will mark the first time the characters manifest their powers.
After some role play of this initial event the game will skip ahead some
time. I haven't decided just how long yet but there will be somewhat
frequent periods of downtime in this game (or so I've planned) which
means it may quickly diverge from real life.
