Premise:
You've been bad.
In fact, you've been terrible. By one means or another -- birth,
accident, effort, technology, whatever -- you acquired powers that set
you above the normal run of mankind. Maybe you could fly, or shoot fire
from your hands, or read minds. Maybe you were strong enough to lift a
train, tough enough to bounce a tank shell off your chest, or fast
enough to run around the world in a minute. Whatever it was, it made you
special, and it gave you an opportunity to help people who couldn't help
themselves and to make the world a better place in a way that only you
could.
But you didn't. Instead you used your powers to rob, or terrorize, even
to kill. You used them for selfish or cruel ends. In short, you became a
villain. Someone that decent people hated and feared, the sort that
police fought, that superheroes-- the people who were what you could
have been -- fought sometimes to the death, the kind of person that
lived down to the worst that people could be instead of living up to the
best.
But then something happened. Maybe you robbed one bank too many. Maybe
you killed someone you realized didn't deserve it. Maybe you fell in
love with someone who couldn't stand what you did. Maybe you just woke
up one morning and couldn't look at yourself in the mirror anymore. But
you decided to change, to work to undo the damage you've done and to
finally, maybe, do some good in this world.
It won't be easy. The police and the superheroes are after you because
of all the things you've done, and maybe because they don't believe that
it's really possible that someone as rotten as you could actually turn
over a new leaf. Your former friends on the wrong side of the law know
all too well that you've changed your spots, and they're after you too.
And the people you're now trying to protect are justifiably terrified of
you. It's going to be a long, hard, thankless road, and you might not be
able to walk it successfully -- but you have to try, because if you
don't you're damned in your own eyes as well as everyone else's, and
that's one more failure than you can stand.
The Redeemers is a superheroic PBEM of supervillains of all sorts who
band together to try to reform and walk the righteous path. But it won't
be easy, because now the whole world -- law abiding and criminals alike
-- are out to get you, your good deeds are likely to be taken as
criminal acts or a false front. Are you doing to clear your record and
dodge prison or to finally do something good with your miserable life?
The choice is yours.

Bradbury was right, the path to censorship isn't Orwellian doublespeak, its people complaining about being offended by every little thing.
