Recruiting for a new Medievil Fantesy style RPG. Based on the world from Dog Days loosely for world design and magic power balancers. I am open when it comes to plotlines, preferances, and other quirks.

First and Only Dog Days style RPG. A fact I find odd when the world is literally the perfect set-up for a fantasy style RPG. Please YIM your questions or simply head over to the group to look yourself.

Welcome to a magical world filled with magical creatures known as the Biscotti. A race of creatures characterized by their animal ears and tails. Beings able to wield magic within the world as diverse as sands upon the beach.

Four kingdoms dominate a landmass of Flonyard. These are kingdoms inhabited by those of a canine ancestry to the north, feline ancestry to the east, rodent ancestry to the west, and aviary ancestry to the south. For millenia these kingdoms lived in peace. On occasion however the great kingdoms engage in contests of merit for wealth, for land, and even for their own species' pride.

Recently magical forces surrounding each kingdom has begun to decay. Fowl beasts have begun to invade these sacred sacred lands. Polluting the environment and the minds of many of Flonyard's most powerful citizens.

And to face the threat, the rulers of each kingdom have begun to enact the ritual to bring heroes from Earth to Flonyard for aid. Heroes arrive with animal traits.

This is a Dog Days Anime Spinoff RPG set 2000 years after the events in the anime for storyline purposes.

All PC and NPC characters will be original.

PG-13 or Higher Content!

Hi, Chuck:

I'm coming late to the discussion, but here you go. I think we talked about a lot of these issues when I was down at the shop earlier in the year. We had to cut it short because you were meeting with a documentary crew, but as I recall, we covered many if not most of the good points that have already been made. So I'm really surprised that you're seriously considering this!

I haven't seen the new store setup yet, but in the old place, it sure looked like you'd have to sacrifice space for popular F/SF systems to be able to bring in much in the way of historical miniatures (other than Flames of War). So presumably you can spare the space now.

I don't have much useful advice, actually. Indeed, you're probably best listening to anything I say and then running as fast as you can in the opposite direction! But to add on to what you've already assessed:

Yep, that's a major negative factor for WAB, if the only way to make money on ancients is from the figures. Stuart set up a good distributorship for "Clash of Empires" using Brookhurst. I have no opinion to share regarding any others.

The Great Yellow Wall which I gleefully raided (and I think Jeff did too) when Cliff marked them down 40%, 50% and more? Yes, I think there's an important lesson there!

That sums it up pretty well. It's a pity that the typical hobby shop consumer is so brand-oriented, but there it is. Some of us who are pontificating have been able to accumulate massive collections independently, but you know your customers better! If you're thinking about carrying Foundry, I think you might want to look at some of the other contenders for quality 28mm ancients: Gripping Beast (including the Polemarch range of Successors, instigated by a Californian!), Aventine Miniatures, and Gorgon Studios (here in the US). You'd have to work out separate arrangements with each, I reckon, but each of these has superb figures that will attract gamers and painters. Unfortunately, Foundry seems to be working hard to cut back on their best ranges and alienate customers.

I suspect that trying to promote "big battle" classical-era ancients gaming through the store is a risky proposition. You might have a "flash in the pan" positive response, as in San Diego, and then have to watch it wither away. You don't want that.

Perry Miniatures' plastic and metal Wars of the Roses range provides some lovely figures for the period, and would be a natural migration for WHFB players, but the later medieval period isn't all that well supported yet by the major ruleset contenders, IMO. Pity.

If you were inclined to start smaller, with small or skirmish games using a few figures, there are a couple of options for semi-packaged ruleset and figure combinations:

- Gripping Beast has the "Saga" system out now for "Viking"-era combat, and have been producing plastic figure sets along with their comprehensive metal figure ranges to work with these. (As an aside: since Old Glory 15s stopped manufacturing Gripping Beast figures in the US a couple of years ago, GB might be amenable to working with an aggressive importer--and they have lots of classical ranges, too.)

- Two Fat Lardies are developing the "Dux Britanniarum" system for Romano-British and Arthurian battles, and Gripping Beast is making up pre-made army packs for it! TFL rules tend to be an acquired taste, and are not always conventional gamers' cup of tea, but the DB rules are pretty straightforward so far in playtesting.

In any case, I've cast my lot in with Stuart and "Clash of Empires". Good luck with whatever you opt to do. I'll try to get down again sometime soon and check out the new store--as soon as the winds die down!

In the beginning we had chaos. Rising from that chaos, heroes came. Thus began the Marvel Universe. At Marvel Knights, we have an alternate take on the beginnings of the Marvel Universe with a heavy influence drawn from the Ultimate comic line. Most heroes are in their origin phase or just beyond it and things are starting off.

This game of interactive fiction focuses on storytelling and character development within the game itself. We are not accepting original characters as the Marvel Universe has literally hundreds if not thousands of characters that can be played. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to help you find a character to fit your needs and style.

We at Marvel Knights strive to give our players the best gaming experience possible. With friendly and attentive moderators, we take the time to discuss plotlines and character development with our players. Our lead storyteller has taken some time and put together a set of plotlines for the game that can easily be adapted for new characters. We have all seen games where one or two characters dominate the story, and we at Marvel Knights refuse to be like that. We give each character equal attention and equal importance in the developing plotlines.

While we respect each players interpretation of canon characters, we have put a spin on the characters themselves to adapt them to the fledgling Marvel Universe. We will work with players to make these changes as to not stifle their individual creativity and to make sure things work out in the long run.

Please note that this is not your average Marvel game. We feel that Marvel characters are very mature and adult in nature. This is not a slash or smut group in any way, but there will be a very dark and gritty feel to the game. There will be graphic language and violence. We warn anyone who is easily offended or disturbed by violence, language, or adult themes about the nature of this game and the characters. We ask that those involved be mature enough to handle the concepts of the game.

[RPG_Player_Sanctuary] Looking for Fantesy RPers - New Group / New Adventures

 

Hello everyone,

I will be starting a new Fantesy themed RPG at some point this month. I am currently looking for players who will be active (least once weekly) and have some experiance-good writers (descent sized posts).

For the genre and theme, I was setting it Medievil time-period with a heavier focus on furries (E.g. Vixens, Neko, etc), Elves, and similar fantesy creatures. Group will be open to all levels of RPers from the teenagers to mature players, therefore PG-13 level content unless its explicity said in the title. I am not too picky about post content :)

Please post here or message me on YIM if you are interested. We are still in the planning stages so things like plot are up for debate.

I have about 8 years managing successful RPG groups, and can play a character from about any background or plotline. Also open to doing bunch of 1on1s within the new group for those who prefer this type.

It seems that that the HC option is the most store friendly. You don't really need large armies to start, and it is based on "what is on the shelf" more than the anal 'list pouring' style rules. Plus one can simply have a Roman and Dacian army as a demo force that can inspire and teach.. and one can play any of the rule sets with those armies easily. In fact smaller games help shorter attention spans and replay is possible.

Maybe Chuck would be up for some kind of big 5th-century thing? I think
that is a period that a lot of us paint in, and so we could put on a nice
big event. Maybe a two-table connected battle set in late Rome and then a
one-table skirmish game using the Mordheim rules? 10-man units of Late
Romans and 15-man units of Romano-Gaulic townspeople versus clans of
raiding Ostrogoths, Huns, etc,? Or, we could challenge some Fantasy
players to a one-day fight between "Empire" and Late Romans Empire?
