RE: [WABlist] Errata for FotW

Monday, November 29, 2010

The errata is at least partially done. Just about everybody insisted
that they re-point some of the troops in FotW to fix problems.. and to
point out how to create a comitatus unit out of characters- do they have
musicians, standards??
Instead they just munged up the lists even further. FotW has never been
supported by the list authors. AoA's late Roman lists is superior, and
most people just gravitated to the magic weapons of Arthur for Late
Romans....

Forgeworld has nobody on the ball with Warhammer Ancients Battles-- no
full time person is in charge of the system. It has all been doled out
to part timers, not on staff and being paid no doubt slave wages for
their efforts.
I cannot fault the part timer's for trying to get this unified errata
together, but it is somewhat incomplete at times.... FotW has always
been a book with salvageable lists (after all there is a brilliant
revision of it on the WEB somewhere-- maybe WAB forums downloads)....
but nobody at ForgeWorld has the vision, brains, or balls to do anything
about it...
So instead FotW gets an incomplete erratum that simply reverses some
things and makes it worse overall... luckily it is already one of the
worst sets of list in WAB.

It's just sad that when a new version of the rules comes out that some
simple revisions would have helped.

My AtG errata at least includes the new rules for Wedges, but that's
only because Martin and I hammered over that for the rulebook (where it
did not appear-- no doubt so a full page photo could fill up space). At
least player's can use the wedge now with WAB 2.0 and have less
issues....

Sadly, five years ago we would have loved to have an officially posted
overall supplement erratum.....now it is DOA. But it's nice that AtG
finally has an erratum, even though you cannot buy it new :)

OK, so I think I am probably pointing out the obvious, but the errata
for
FotW seems to be shockingly brief, given some of the confusions and
difficulties that are in that book. Most obviously, I think it is clear
that the designer wanted formed barbarians to have hand weapons,
throwing
spears, and shields, and skirmishing barbarians to have hand weapons,
javelins and shields. This also seems like it would be an easy
insertion
into the options below the barbarian warrior entry, and it would keep
the
warriors roughly equal to the Roman, who are all rolling with throwing
spears.

Now, though, warriors have hand weapons, javelins, and shields (plus the
mixed weapon rule), but they can upgrade to a heavy throwing spears?
This
seems funky, and a lot of things in this list seem like obvious choices
for
errata. Other choices, like the priest, seem like unnecessary
deletions.
Anyone have the inside info on why they made these choices?

Ilan
