In fact, As Gustavus took the northern German cities, most of the Swedish national infantry was on garrison duty. Gustavus didn't really trust most Germans to hold up in a seige. Therefore, most of the Swedish Amies infantry on campaign was in fact German, including his Guard. With ragard to the cavalry, a lot of them were in fact Swedish.

There was no national uniform, even in Swedish army. Some elite regiments were blue and yellow, the colors of Swedish crown, but others can be any color. In a few months of the continental campaign most uniforms would be in tatters and soldiers had to wear any clothes they could find. In one of the big battles, don't remember which, newly equipped allies looked spiffy while Swedes looked ragged. About an year in to campaign Gustavus had to raise many more mercenaries than there were actually Swedes. May be 15% of the army were Swedish, the rest were various mercenaries. I ordered my Swedes from Warlord Games and the box provides a pretty good guide for painting one regiment of each force (foote or horse) but not much more. I'm limited here in Bahrain to access to material. I'd appreciate it if anyone can point me to any sources to assist me in differentiating by color schemes the other regiments.
