I sometimes use combi's on all Superiors. I haven't used multi-melta on Infantry. I don't have any models built. They are certainly better under 6th edition rules.
Heavy Flamers are expensive points-wise, but they are pretty good. It's a tough call to say whether they are worth it with the new list.
