Re: [WABlist] Wars of the Roses Army Composition?

Armies of Chivalry supplement has WotR army lists. I don't have the supplement with me right now. What I remember is that depending on a faction you can get various proportions of troops.

Most factions have to have at least 50% or maybe more bills and bows. Billmen and bowmen can be combined in mixed order formations (bow in front, bills in the back) in any combination. Billmen and bowmen can also be combined with dismounted men at arms. Billmen and bowmen can be retinue or shire, any combination. Retinue and shire troop types can't be mixed in same units. Welsh spearmen and bowmen can also be used and included as a part of infantry %.

Irish and continental mercenaries are mostly up to 25% of the armies. Yorkist pretenders can have up to 75% of them. Irish are Galloglaich and Kerns. Continentals are crossbowmen, spearmen, breton light infantry and handgunners. Spearmen and crossbowmen can be combined. Depending of the faction some mercenaries are restricted.

Cavalry is not very numerous and dismounted knights are part of the cavalry %. If I remember correctly it's no more than 25%, but possibly no more than 50%. Knights are called men at arms in the list, border horse and Irish light cavalry are part of cavalry %.

Finally, some limited artillery is available, may be 2 for standard 2000 points army.

As you can see the list is pretty flexible. Because of the nature of the conflict sided used whatever troops they could get, no precise proportions and % were adhered to.
