I did have the chance to look over a group which was "converted" for a couple of hours, and then switched back to the old format. I didn't care for the layout, and graphically it looked like "Y: Q&A" with a few features of Facebook thrown in. I was tempted to post a message to see how it worked and I did hit "reply" to see if I could view the previous message and could not, which is a change I don't like. Several of the features didn't work and I got a little notice that said "the paint on this new feature is not dry yet, but I could use the old format until it was. Photos did work and appeared to be unchanged. It look it would be a bad idea to change a head in a thread because I think that would result in a new thread, so those folks who like to change each head and use tags in headers won't like that change.
Over all, I felt like I could live with the new format even if I would probably not ever grow to love it. I'm not going to go in search of another system to play PBEMs, and I am not going to delete the active group I've been running for close to two years. Sad to say the group which was test converted for a few hours and which gave me to chance to look over the new format was deleted the next day by its owner who gave no warning. He cannot be reached now either, so I believe he also deleted his Yahoo membership. I don't know for a fact, but I think he deleted the group out of a conviction that the new format was poison to PBEMs, and I suspect he also looked the group over while it was converted. That was a pity because the group was new and looked like it would work out. I joined a new group which was started by a member of the deleted group, the new owner also saw the new format and thinks it is usable but ugly. So far, three other people have joined and I think we'll be playing by Monday morning. Group owners should wait until the conversion is finished, then delete their groups if they don't like the changes; doing so now is premature.
