Norman figures with mostly round shields will work fine for that period. Earlier figures from Dark Ages will work also, as you suspected. Essex, Old Glory, Artisan, Crusader, Gripping Beast - lots of manufacturers for that period.

Just like with other periods, minimal research need to be done to collect appropriate figures. Manufacturers just can't anticipate every possible period and marked their figures to the most popular or well known periods. For example, most Punic wars ranges can also be used for Social wars in Italy, Greeko-Carthaginian wars, various civil wars, Pirric war, etc. Yet, manufacturers market them as Punic Wars.
