>>> Some thoughts on representing an Army of Otto the Great son of Henry the Fowler? The years are say around 925-975. Would it be considered early medieval? I was thinking it would something similar to Norman mixed with Saxon cavalry types and Saxon / Dark Age Foot sort of a mix in appearance?
>>> WAB and most miniature providers don't seem very in-depth on information or support regarding Central Europe history after the Fall of the Roman Empire era until we find Crusades Era or Teutonic Knight Miniatures to use.
Oh, it's not all that bad! But you do need to be a bit selective, if you really want to portray the tenth century. Many Norman figures have details of armor that are a bit late (I'd avoid anything that has the Bayeux Tapestry's "chest square" on the armor, or anything in the way of long hauberk sleeves and mail chausses); many Saxons have details that are too early ("spectacle" helmets, or anything based on the Sutton Hoo and Benty Grange helmets).
Some of the Artizan Carolingians would work, but unfortunately, they're mixed in packs with other figures that scream "Carolingian". For armored infantry, the Artizan "Arthurians" look very Ottonian to me.
I recall that one fellow in the UK use the County of Flanders variant of the Norman (etc.) list from "Shieldwall' for his Ottonians. A German AB player wasn't satisfied with the SW list, and has made his own:
