Yes, some people still play the early versions. After all, it was only about 9 or 10 days ago that a 2nd edition game was recruiting here, although it has since filled up.
While I have no objections to the later versions and am willing to play in those, I find I do prefer the earlier versions, since I have less to keep track of and more time to focus on play, and I think I like the tone of those earlier versions better. And generally, when I do play, it is usually the earlier basic D&D game, since that (or the Labyrinth Lord game) is the one my husband runs.
