[OpenFX] COT: 7-29-11

Hi Traders,

As I prepare to head to the Outer Banks for some R-n-R, I thought I forward the the latest COT report. While I didn't include a commentary, this week, you might want to note JPY, AUD and NZD both on the attached and on your daily price charts (I also suggest taking a look at CHF), as they are at extremes between the commercials and specs; i.e., the two groups are 180-degrees apart from each other.

With the "new" debt deal in place, which is a whole other topic and would take a separate post to discuss the smoke-n-mirrors campaign that's been going on in DC... I mean, seriously, does anyone really believe that they weren't going to give "The Bernanke" and company more business? But I digress...

As I was saying, with the this deal done, it will be interesting to see how the markets respond, especially with the above currencies at all-time highs against the US dollar. Again, the COT charts are are attached for review. If you have any question, please ask.

Twenty Years Ago: Two men, Charles Xavier and Erik Magnus, met and shared a dream. A dream that one day man and mutant could come to understand one another and stand side by side into the future. Out of a lifetime of tragedy and sorrow, Erik was prepared to put the hatred aside at last for the sake of his daughter Lorna.

Ten Years Ago: Professor Charles Xavier and his associate Erik Magnus went before the United Nations with a group of mutants and revealed the presence of mutants at last to the world. News spread like wildfire. Opinions were split. In the shadows groups began to form on both sides to undermine any future peace. Hate groups against mutants sprung up just as quickly as groups formed to help and accept them. Xavier faced his first assassination attempt by a bullet from the man known only as Taskmaster. Magnus saved his friend, even though the assassin fled. In the aftermath the island of Genosha was granted to the mutants that had long suffered secretly upon its shores. Magnus and Xavier were offered the chance to lead the fledgling nation but declined leaving it in the hands of a younger mutant named Shiro Yoshida.

Nine Years Ago: In the depths of a cave far below Paris, a man returned from a long slumber. Known only as Exodus, he returned to a changed world from his time of living in the ancient world. Staying to the shadows the man vowed to learn all he could about the new world as he prepared. Seeing mutants facing strife from some humans, Exodus began to form a plan to wipe out the weak humans forever and allow the strong to survive.

Five Years Ago: Xavier and Magnus finish their prototype mutant detecting machine codenamed `Cerebro'. As they realize that the number of mutants continues to grow daily, the men come to a decision to house young mutants and teach them of their powers and show mankind that powers can be used for good. Warren Worthington III is the first recruited alongside Magnus daughter Lorna. Soon enough the woman known as Callisto from the sewers, Hank McCoy, and Sean Cassidy join them. Together they become the X-Men.

Three Years Ago: Construction began upon a new home for the X-Men within the city of Hammer Bay in Genosha, as Magnus and Xavier draw up plans to expand their teaching and their numbers. Exodus returns at last and appears before humanity to warn them of their coming doom, with his chosen Acolytes at his side. The X-Men, Magneto, and Xavier rise to stop the man. During the battle, after an intense psychic fight, Exodus manages to snap Xavier's neck killing him instantly. Magnus is stricken with grief at the loss of his oldest friend and grievously injures Exodus. Exodus is spirited away by his Acolytes and enters a telekinetic cocoon and falls into suspended animation to heal. Magneto and the X-Men part ways as the Xavier mansion is sold off.

One Year Ago: Magnus comes to realize that mutant kind needs positive roll models and that Xavier and his dream is not dead, in fact it is just beginning. Finishing Avalon within the heart of Genosha, the X-Men are called back together as they begin to work towards the next step in Xavier's never forgotten dream.

X-Men: Academy X is a Reboot X-Men Universe. Meaning that there is no continuity from the comics, movies, cartoons, or any other media form. ACX is accessible to any level of knowledge pertaining to X-Men and the Marvel Universe as a whole. We draw upon the comics, movies, and cartoons for our inspiration. Starting off after the recent return and expansion of the X-Men as well as the formation of the Brotherhood, we present a fully open world for exploration. With friendly and knowledgeable staff, and energetic players, the board is a grand story just waiting to be told and waiting for your input. Major plots are in the works, sweeping stories. Major canons are still wanted and needed so come check us out!

In the depths of space, there lies a darkness which shelters the
forgotten souls of those who once lived lives of prosperity. Their lands
were rich, with the fruits of their labor displayed beautifully
throughout their villages. Their children ran around, happily playing
and growing up to be fine citizens, taking on the roles of their fathers
and mothers. They were peaceful beings, and were more than happy to
share their prosperity with others who came to ask.

Those souls one day became tainted with fear and despair by those
who would bring upon them evil deeds. They invaded their lands,
showering the forgotten ones in rays of fire, burning down their homes.
They invaded, raping the forgotten ones of their land, and their
dignity. The forgotten souls had no choice but to leave and find another
world to call their own.

They have lived deep underground, in the darkness of space. Fearing
that those who brought upon them such despair would come again to find
them. And silently praying that someone would come along to avenge them.

A light shines in the distance. And something is coming their way.
They lie in fear, not knowing what it is that hovers over their heads.
They can barely make out through a primitive telescope the name on the
ship's bow... The radiant light of the stars... Should they flee? Or
should they wait out and see what becomes of the light in the sky? Will
it bring death, or salvation?

My thought is that even if Penitent Engines are cheap, they still
won't be viable. They're too slow and, given 5th Ed, everyone comes
prepared for parking lots, so one or two doses of melta fire will be
the end of them as an effective unit. If they insist on keeping the AV
low, I'm not sure how they would ever be effective.

I agree on the point about Seraphim. Jump troops are meant to engage
in HtH. If they're less able than they used to be, they won't be
useful.

It's a shame. I'm really enjoying my DE at the moment, but I would
have jumped to use my Sisters if the new rules had been decent.

1d6/game for Faith? That smacks of Jervis ("Every Chaos Lord would
love to use a weapon that has a 1 in 6 chance of wounding himself and
eliminating his attacks for the round! That's Chaosy!") in about 10
different ways, even though I know he's not involved directly in
design anymore.

Fearless does confer to characters joining (not vice versa, curiously) fearless units, and stubborn characters also would confer stubborn to squads they join, but the unit would still be fearless. Stubborn would be irrelevant.

The command squad might still be the best bet, relentless should be pretty good.

Shield of Faith will be useful when the vehicle is not in cover just as your example has it.

Unfortunately, without the extra movement, Penitent engines are probably not going to be much use. They apparently won't have to compete with Exorcists any more, so they might still get some love, if they are cheap.

Dominions will be popular I imagine, especially if the army gets something to help with reserve rolls.

Even if Seraphim are 15 points as rumored, they are going to struggle to be useful, I think. Jump squads that suck in HtH are just silly, or so it seems to me.

[RPG_Player_Sanctuary] Strongholds of Faerûn (D&D 3.5 looking for new members)

 

Strongholds of Faerûn is an ongoing campaign set in the Forgotten Realms, and we are in the midst of a large-scale battle between a blue dragon's evil forces and a brass dragon's heroic forces. The game uses the 3.5 rules, but this is more of a collaborative writing project than a hack & slash. We are currently looking for one or two more participants. You can create a 7th-level PC or take over an existing 8th-level character (see list of existing, available characters below).

[BTSS] How will the changes work?

 

Lets take a look at the new Acts of Faith.
Canoness: +1 In, Preferred enemy, USR. She is Stubborn, USR.

Command Squad: Relentless, move through cover. USR

Repentia: Get attack even if killed before.

Battle sister: Auto regroup, re-roll failed hits on a 1, shooting or HTH

Celestian: +1 Str., Fearless USR

Dominion Squad: Twin-linked shooting. Not HTH

Seraphim: re-roll any failed to wound shooting. Not HTH

Retributor: Rending USR, shooting not HTH

So what unit is best for the Canoness to join or do we just use Saint Celestine as our HQ?

Command squad can move and fire HW but is 1 MM shoot better than 2 meltagun shots?

If Canoness joins Celestian unit are they Fearless and Stubborn and how would that work?

The way it looks now the best option would be for the Canoness to join a Celestian unit. She would allow the Cele to be In 4 and re-roll failed hit in HTH and they would allow her to be
Str 5 and the unit to be Str. 4.

How is Shield of Faith going to work for Veh.? Move pop smoke you get 4+ cover save, next round you get a 6+ cover save?

New best unit in game, Dominions, set up, scout up to 12" away with 4 MG and TL MM on Immolator than in your turn move 6" get out 2" you will get 1 TW MM shot under 12" for double dice and 4 MG under 6" for double dice. If you do not win roll off to go first than you may now outflank with this unit on turn 2. Big tanks and unit hiding in the back are not safe anymore.

I think command squad will be tempting to take but not sure it will be worth it in long run, even with FNP.

Penitent Engines got a huge bump in the rules and will be very playable if they can still be taken in squads.

Just trying to find some good in all the cr@p, hope wargear and pts cost are at least in our favor. Hellfire rounds for the HB would be a good start.
