I'll be up at Strategicon this year. I'd suggest going with AoA or not and trying to come up with a hybrid solution. I got my AoA book yesterday and have been going through it. There are so many big changes between the old and new lists it would be a nightmare to play against each other.
Some examples, Republican Roman maniples rule is now just they can move through each other with some panic rerolls. No more supporting or swapping. There are no more S4 or T4 troops now, well only ones Ive see are T4 Spartans and S4 Tagmata Cataphracts. Pretty much all the characters giving hatred, etc are gone.
I'm kind of put off by the AoA book after looking at what happened to some of my armies I have. My Bulgars aren't allowed spears anymore... ok. Romans can't have Barbarian allies, lost the ability to buy javelins and no longer have Tetsudo. Some major typo's in the Goth list with character Ld and some strangeness with the foot Comitatus. The pretty extreme upgrading of some of the Seleucid units compared to Jeff's lists I can live with. My Avars and Huns certainly got better with the new charging horse with bow fire and wounds go towards combat result rule. I'm sure everyone wants to see them again :)
I'm good with either AoA or old supplements for the con. I would make a decision pretty soon if you could though.
By the way, if you are getting an AoA book check the page numbers. Out of the 3 books I ordered for people in San Diego, 2 of them had pages 145-160 repeated twice and pages 161-176 got left out.
