I'm announcing that we will use the new Armies of Antiquities supplement exclusively for the Los Angeles Strategicon Orccon WAB tournament on Sunday February 19th. We'll use a point value of 2800 which is stated as the rough equivalent of 2000 under the old lists.
I've spent some time with the lists and I'm impressed with the supplement. I'm not saying that there aren't issues, I think there are many. But I believe that it's clearly the way forward for mixed period tournament events. I don't believe that much will be gained by delaying the switch to this supplement.
That being said I want to make it as easy as possible for people to transition. I and several of the regular players are willing to help any potential attendees convert their existing list if they aren't willing to or able to buy the new supplement. Just send me and email with your current list and some idea of your additional forces and we'll give it a shot. I will also be available the morning of the event to help people convert at that time. Also, one of my compatriots is currently working on an Army Builder file for the new lists. It probably won't be done in time, but we might be able to get individuals a beta version to help with preparing for the tournament. In any case please contact me directly with any issues and I'll do whatever I can to help with the situation. I would hate to lose any players because of the new lists, so let's all try to make it work.
I will listen to anybody that has a very compelling reason why one of the legacy lists would work better for them. If there is truly a case that something can't be represented with the new lists I'll make a one time exception and approve the individual army configuration. If this actually occurs it'll be announced at the start of the tournament so that everybody is aware. So realize that not only do you have to convince me you'll have to justify it to all of your opponents or face scorn and derision.
