Gauis Panicus needs to chime in ...

We have had many hobby shops come and go over the years. Some were solely historical, others GW focused with a variety of historical goodies for sale and some without much historical stuff but paints and other goodies for sale. But they all had one thing in common ... the historical gamers drove the historical sales not the store. So it doesn't matter what rules you like, it matters what rules your historical customers like and if you can find what they want for them. If I can game at a hobby shop I will support the store by buying from them, even if I can get items cheaper on line. But the store has to be able to get what I want in a timely manner.

A good thing to stock is wargaming magazines, Wargames Illustrated for starters. WI will generate some interest in historical gaming and might bring some historical gamers into the store.

As for Hail Caesar or WAB or whatever .... you should play what you enjoy. But never ... EVER ... fight EIR vs High Elves!!!! Sacrilege!!

Gauis Panicus likes Hail Caesar. As a Roman Patrician who wouldn't? But the movement rules are fiddly and really don't work well in smaller games, and smaller games are what you will be hosting at your store. The combat mechanism is simple and makes sense so the players should pick that up in no time. WAB's day has eclipsed, sadly. AoA2 has helped give a little hope for the patient, but terminal is still terminal. I am awaiting a copy of War and Conquest to see how they work. We play a lot of Field of Glory. But don't tell anyone.

Good luck with your future plans. Get some British Celts to fight those EIR. :)
