Re: [BTSS] petition to Games Workshop

2nd edition had crazy stats for heroes but the rules didn't favor them the way 5th edition does. It usually took only about four or five models in combat with a hero to even out the combat. Sure, the first few were likely boned, but +1 for every extra guy added. up. 5th edition heroes strike before the puds and don't have to worry about the numbers.

Moreover, 2nd edition units didn't have to clump up in a hurry to die, they could stay where they were and wait for the hero to come to them - in the next combat.

Models like Kharn and the Avatar had insane abilities, but they could be managed to some extent by mobbing them or just making them take several turns to eat a cheap unit.

On the other side of the coin, it was easier to kill even the toughest heroes then; I remember playing a kid who had every Blood Angel hero made - and not much else. I just played my Ravenwing Landspeeders and shot them off the board in a ridiculous hurry. Pop-up attacks for the win! Assault Cannons did d10 wounds in those days and got three sustained fire dice! Even the Avatar could go down with reasonable rolls to one shot.

If anything, we're seeing the rebirth of 'Hero 'Hammer', of Second Ed. vintage, where one can have a cheesy army simply by buying the newest toys. We SoB players have to win on superior generalship, rather than having the newest and coolests units, because they ain't coming. The Necrons have recieved yet more brand new models to make them the cheesiest of the cheddar, the Space Wolves recieved their new characters and the Thunderwolf cav, and yet somehow they couldn't throw us a bone. Granted, we didn't get Squatted, but we haven't got squat since Fourth Edition came out, and all our main models are of Second Ed. vintage. Every other army has been retooled at least twice in that time.
