Elder scrolls has a large and dedicated fan base. In the first two days of release it broke world records and game content itself can keep a dedicated player happy for several hundred hours. I have up nearly 400 hours on my character. Game requires a minimum of three different characters to experiance all of the quests in the game.
Most of storylines cut off after certain actions so you have to re-do these with different characters to get different results (IE. Beating all of the guilds). That said it is of course an RPG. This means more slow game progression, a ton of farming and repetitive actions, and a large number of hidden joys to discouver throughout the massive world.
I personally despise shooters and love RPGs. These two are from two entirely different worlds. But I know people who love both genres.
