The year is 1347 A.D. and Viridis Brevis (Brevisian for Green Shores), nestled on an island that it shares with three other countries and bordering the Green Sea, has been under the rule of its neighbor Limoux for the past century. It's been long enough that those within Brevis's borders cannot remember anything but the system forced upon them by their centuries-old enemies--but not so long ago that the stories of the epic rulers of yesteryear are not fondly told around the hearth by peasant and nobleman alike. Tales are woven by bards and passed along of days when Brevisian kings sat on the throne in Havensey Castle and when the Brevisian nobility, now relegated to puppets for the conquering monarchy, had more power over the Fate of their native land.
The history of the Brevisian people is one of epic battles and struggling hardship, of beautiful songs and poetry, and some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the island that it shares with three other countries, all powerful in their own way, all seeking to expand their influence. In 1247, exactly one century ago, while the Crusades were occupying the Continent, the Army from Limoux boldly entered Brevisian borders, starting a war that would last for another decade, resulting in the fall of the last true Brevisian King Hywell IV to the sword. In his place a new monarchy was established, the relations of the then-king of Limoux, Henri Benoit II. This monarchy, still closely aligned to its relations in the court of Limoux, reigns over Brevis while still keeping its ties to Limoux. In 1280 the Ninth Crusade ravaged the Continent, and Christianity forced out the last remnants of pagan culture left behind in Brevis. The Church's influences in Brevisian life is undeniable and far-reaching.
Now, a century has passed since the Brevisian people were forced under the rule of foreign monarchs, and the relative peace following the last Crusades on the Continent has left time for other battles: border lords squabble, and the two other countries that share the large island in the middle of the Green Sea, Montagne Splendide and Samradh, are turning their eyes towards Limoux and Brevis, eying the prospects of growing their own borders--and influence. Meanwhile, within Brevis itself, people have always dreamt of the return of their own Royal line to the throne, and an overthrow of the foreign power that dominates them. Those of noble Brevisian blood either tossed their lot in with the foreign conquerers--or make them think they have. Viridis Brevis is a land on the precipice of change and always at threat of war, and the people with in it, peasant or nobleman, laborer or royal, man or woman, will all feel the changes as the ominous threat of the Black Death, and the every-present fear of war, looms on the horizon of our story.
Who will you be?
We are looking for writers interested in creating political intrigue. We want people who are as excited about the intrigue that can happen at court and amongst nobility, and inside the households, as they are about the big battles and the major external drama. We want writers who find the history of the Tudors and the Borgias to be fascinating, who have devious minds when it comes to plotting and who love the idea of plotting with other writers to create the kind of intrigue that would exist in a political court of this kind in the Middle Ages. We are actively seeking royals and peasantry alike, and there is room for all sorts of drama! If this sounds like you, we want you to join us at Green Shores RPG!
