You'd be at a slight disadvantage as your infantry will have a 25mm frontage per man rather than the normal 20mm. Another solution, whilst retaining your 1p base option, would be to stick steel paper to the bottom of a normal movement tray. By adding magnetic paper to the bottom of your pennies, they will adhere to the tray, retain a 20mm frontage per man and still be removable for skirmish gaming.
