Not a bad idea. EIR army is very flexible that way. Your usual variant is good against missile heavy enemy. Your later variant is more aggressive. IgorSent via Interstellar Space Vox

The army list I've used for the end of the Republic has been from the Early
Imperial list in the rule book (both 1.5 and now 2.0.) My usual composition
lately has been:
1 General on warhorse
4 x 18 Regular Legion
18 Auxilia
Barbarian allies:
9 Noble Cav. + 1 Chieftain
4 x 8 or 9 skirmishers. One or two units with slings, the rest with
javelins.
I've been playing a western/Spanish/Pompeian army, so my non-Romans have
been Spanish and Gallic. The "auxilia," for example, are scutarii figures.
I'm considering swapping out the heavy cav and auxilia for some lighter cav
and more heavy infantry. But hopefully this gives an idea of what a playable
(and occasionally wins!) Caesarian/late republican army *could* look like in
WAB. There's a bit of room for variation once you get past the initial big
core of legion.
I've also been considering trying the Spartacus list out, but haven't tried
it yet. It's a bit more restrictive than the EIR list, as it's intended for
one particular campaign.
