I think a lot of people forget team play.. this way different groups can be on a side Axis and Entente in this case... players can them be matched by army types... and you end up with the winners playing against an enemy opponent... this is where the break down between ancient style tournaments and later era historical tournaments occurs... nobody wants to play in a finals game of 1863 Rebs vs. 1862 Rebs for the finals.... Rome vs Rome is ok in ancients (it happened more often than Rome vs. Sarmatians) but it is more fun if everybody is rooting for the top player to win for their side vs. the top player of the enemy side. It means folks have to think differently than "I chose the best cheese hard tournament list with pikemen than anybody else"... to "I'm helping my team win the competition." I realize for some this may be an aberrant thought.
But if you put Entente vs Axis.. and pair up the early or middle or early-late-middle and late-middle-early-later-earlier armies together, you are likely to get a decent match for a final.... the other way is to pare down the tech... don't allow the tanks for the final game if vs. an early war opponent, after all they didn't always have them....

Well, due to time constraints with John and I and the other tournaments, I think we are looking at a two game event for Friday morning. I don't know what sort of campaign we can come up with in that short a time frame. I'll talk to Mike Reardon about that, though.

Hi Phil, at the very worst you could use the brigade, regimental and divisional support stuff from the British early lists. The only other difference is the coherency of 1" for Early War armies vs 2" for Later War armies.
As for sending your ECW guys out for painting, I've done that too. Amazing how big those armies actually get. Now paint your Americans!
