The best RPG game I play is RomeCraft, which is a server on Minecraft. In order to play minecraft online, you must pay about $30, but that price is a one pay only, than the rest of the time is free!
What is Romecraft: Aetas Antoninae?
Romecraft: Aetas Antoninae (RC:AA) is the successor of both prior incarnations of
Stugace's well known Roman Roleplay (RP) server, Legends of
Rome/Romecraft: The Frontier. Originally focused on the Legion,
Romecraft has long surpassed it's origins in both scale and depth.
However, at the same time, there was a noticeable drop in motivation and general roleplay quality on the server. After some discussion, a number of the server administrators discussed possibilities of somehow
reviving the server. In that instant, Romecraft: Aetas Antoninae was
born.
The Setting
Moving some 162 years into the future, RC:AA is no longer set in the reign of
Augustus, but Antoninus Pius, the successor of Hadrian, fourth of the so called "Five Good Emperors" and founder of the Antonine Dynasty. The
year is 138AD, and the recently crowned Emperor has decided that the
entirety of Britannia needs to be integrated, including the wild lands
north of Hadrian's Wall, know as Caledonia. In a break from the fantasy
aspects of the previous two Romecrafts, the "Horde" now takes a serious
back foot to interaction between the Roman factions of the Legion and
SPQR and various Pictish tribes, with a strong focus on blending both
gameplay and realism.
Factions
Presently, four factions are available to the players. With any luck, and the help of a strong player base, this number may increase. These factions are:
-Legio Augusta II. A slightly streamlined version of the original server
focus, the Roman Legion will be a particularly demanding, and rewarding, experience for those interested in RP and combat.
-The Senate And People of Rome (SPQR). This faction allows players to RP
Romans, while also adopting a less RP intensive playstyle. That is not
to say RP is not require, nor available - Romecraft's SPQR boasts a
growing core of politically minded players, in addition to any number
who focus on commerce or architecture.
-Two Pictish Tribes. These two tribes will allow those more interested in a
barbarian lifestyle to indulge themselves. While more focused on Player
vs Player Combat, there will also be ample possibility for less violent
RP.
Gameplay
In order to guide gameplay back to the strong RP focus of early Romecraft, several gameplay mechanics have been introduced, or reintroduced in a
new form.
-Player versus Player combat (PvP). Veterans and new players alike will be glad to know PvP has made a return, after a long hiatus. However,
restrictions are in place, and with the exception of certain
Administrator-organised events, the main townships will be non-combat
zones, hopefully allowing PvP for those who desire it, while not
detracting from the novelty for those less bloody-minded. PvP is not the be all and end all of the server, and players should be more than
capable of RPing without ever engaging in combat with other players,
should they so wish.
-Zones. Thanks to the Towny Plugin, RC:AA has several different zones. Towns,
and their surrounding areas, will have construction enabled, but will
also be safe from PvP. Meanwhile, the vast wilderness between these
zones will not allow block destruction, but combat shall be enabled.
Certain 'Control Nodes' may also appear, which allow both construction
and combat, and shall be an important part in the mission system
detailed below.
-An elaborate shipment and mission system. In order to promote growth and
RP, factions will now be set goals by the server administrators, which
shall result in shipments of raw resources to assist in construction and crafting. These missions will be many, allowing the players to pick
their own path, and may vary from constructing a certain building, to
controlling a certain area of the map, to participating in some form of
server event, among others.
-Time progression. For basic RP purposes, time now progresses at the rate of one In Game Year per month.
-Dynamic faction alliances. As the RP storyline progresses, influenced as much
by player actions as the chosen direction of the administrators, the
various factions may form alliances, call truces or declare war, meaning that there is always a different enemy to fight.
