Playing Greeks vs Persians last night using 2.0
------> Cool I hope the good guys won!
A 12 figure Persian light Cavalry unit in Shirmish order charges a line
ogf Greek shirmishers with Javelins, 2 Cavalry figure are 7" from the
closest Skirmisher, the remaining are outside of 8".
Question #1: Can any of the Javelins fire at the chargers, or does one
figure under the 8" range void the fire of the rest(after the charge is
declared 10 Cavalry are in contact with the Skirmishers)?
------> Nobody can shoot, they are too close if any of them are inside
8".
A 12 figure Greek Light Infantry unit is deployed as formed troops in a
2 rank formation.
Question #2: Can the Light Infantry throw Javelins asa formed unit, or
does it havew to be in skirmish order to fire?
------> One rank may throw javelins if on the level. Half of further
ranks may throw uphill or vs. an elevated position, or if on a hill or
elevated position.
A 48 figure Persian Spara-Bara unit is composed as follows, 4 ranks deep
with 24 Spear in the first two ranks and 24 bows in the last two ranks.
Question #3: How many Archers can fire 12 or 18?
-------> 12 archers may fire, only half of each rank is allowed after
the second rank.
Two ranks of spears and two of bows gives the best mix of firepower and
formed troops. Others opt for the mix of archers and spara spears in
separate units.
The most semi-historical missile formation would have the one spearman
line with spara and 3 or more archer ranks... that way by definition (12
wide) you would get 24 shots (12 +6 +6)... but the spearman crust would
not last long.
