I built by samurai army using the old ClanWar minis. Most of their minis were samurai but was able to find many of their ashigaru type figures to build some units. Also, had to modify some of their katana armed ashigaru into spear/pole arms units. Built it to 3000 points so I can modify to any configuration and point value for games.

Overall, it works for me. Nothing cheesy about the army except for the velveta cheese boxes they're transported in.

Oversized characters are nice for fantasy, but not for WAB. The look of our armies should encourage maneuver and tactics, not where the cold-blooded killers are. Ulfendar noteably excepted of course.

I have TAG Samurai (no Magificient Seven or D&D 12th level Monks, thank you very much). Sad they can't be mixed with anybody else's. It's too bad since the Perry stuff is very nice while Minifigs, Ral Partha and even Lot5R stuff can be found in bits bins easily enough.
