RE: [WABlist] Some rules questions

A general is leading a Thegn/Ceorl unit from Shieldwall, and they lose,
break, flee and are not caught.

Question:

1) How should we handle rallying?

------> If the unit has the character in it, it uses the character's
leadership to rally- since the character is attached when the unit fled.
Formed units may rally on the General's leadership within 12". Units
that have rank bonuses that add to leadership may not use them while
fleeing.
So a typical warband with a Warlord with leadership 7 has to roll a 7 to
rally, this applies even if the warlord is 12' away, and even if the
warlord is ranked up in another unit--- the ranks of the unit he is in
do not count for the fleeing unit.

At a recent tournament a referee read the
flight rules as if the fleeing unit essentially becomes skirmishers

-----> The above is incorrect, only skirmishers fleeing are treated as
skirmishers.

2) As a related question, the general above ended up fleeing the table
(because the player, to his credit, was very gracious about accepting
the
most damaging reading of the rules). I see int he panic section that
tests
are taken when a general dies, but this is not the case when a general
decides that its quittin' time?

------> Loss of the general is absorbed in the post battle points tally.
Sadly fleeing does not trigger a general loss test for almost all the
WAB armies, except for the Persians in AtG. One would think thegns would
be susceptible to this, but indeed they are elite as marching bands when
compared to levies...
